Intensive Spanish Language and Culture Courses.
The University of Granada’s Centro de Lenguas Modernas offers Spanish courses for foreigners – “Cursos Intensivos de Lengua Española”, or “CILE”.
If you want to study Spanish in Granada, the Intensive Spanish Language Courses (CILE) are designed for those students who wish to start learning or improve their Spanish during a short stay in our country. An essentially communicative approach is followed in these courses along with the use of the most up-to-date audio-visual technology. The average number of students per group is 12.
CILE courses are offered from January to December. There is a level test at the beginning of every month so students can arrive at the start of any month and join a CILE group at the corresponding level.
From October to December and from February to May, students who have passed level B1.1 Spanish (CLM- 4 Intermediate) can enroll in individual subjects from the Spanish Language and Culture Course and those who have passed level B2.1 (CLM – 6 Advanced) can enroll in individual subjects from the Hispanic Studies Course.
Intensive Spanish Language Courses
Intensive Spanish courses are offered from January to December. With the exception of March or April, which offer 60 class-hours of Spanish, the Spanish courses consist of 80 class-hours of Spanish per month.
Spanish Language and Culture Course – Fall Semester or Spring Semester
If you want to study Spanish in Granada, the Spanish Language and Culture Course is aimed at students that would like to acquire a deeper knowledge of Spanish while learning about some of the main topics of Spanish history and culture. Students in the Spanish Language and Culture course can choose four or five subjects from those offered by CLM each period.
Hispanic Studies Course – 1 Semester or Academic Year
To participate in the Hispanic Studies Course, students must already have a high command of Spanish. CLM always recommends that students take an Intensive Spanish Language Course prior to beginning the Hispanic Studies Course.
The Hispanic studies course is offered in from October to December (Fall Semester) and from February to May (Spring Semester). Students can take either of the Spanish programs or both, which constitutes the Complete Hispanic Studies Course).
Students that successfully complete both semesters (10 Spanish subjects) are entitled to receive the course’s Diploma in Hispanic Studies.
Fall Hispanic Studies Course: 225 hours
Spring Hispanic Studies Course: 225 hours
Academic Year Hispanic Studies Course: 450 hours
Summer Spanish Language & Culture
If you want to study Spanish in Granada during the summer months, students have the possibility of studying one or more of the following subjects irrespective of whether they are taking a CILE or CILYC course. These subjects are offered to students who can demonstrate that they have passed level A2+ (CLM – 3 lower intermediate); Each subject involves 22,5 teaching hours or 45 teaching hours. In addition to the language and culture subjects offered above, a 10 hour option is available for Conversation Practice. Groups are only formed if the minimum requirement of 10 students is met.
